Есть слова, которые сложно перевести даже со словарем. Рубрику «Как сказать по-английски?» консультирует преподаватель из Америки Aaron Figurski, руководитель школы www.365ee.ru, который давно живет в России и отлично владеет русским языком.
Кроме того, на вопросы помогают отвечать другие носители и русские мамы, живущие за рубежом.

Выпуск 1
Как сказать:
- Слушайся маму, будь послушным — Listen to me, Listen to your mother, Listen to your mom (please), Listen to what I say, Behave, Be good, Be a good boy or girl, Be nice
Более строгий вариант
- Listen up! If you don’t behave, then you’re gonna get it!
Крайний случай
- last resort is to use an old school term. Loved by papa’s, feared by kids….”don’t make me go get a switch”*
*A switch is a young thin branch from a tree. Can also be replaced by belt.

В ситуации на людях
- Use your best manners, Make better choice, My mom used to say “you better be on your best behavior!”
В ситуации выигрыша в соревнованиях или настольной игре
- I win, you lose (в момент выигрыша); I won, you (he/she) lost (через 5 секунд после выигрыша)
Междометия неодобрения
- «А-та-та», «Ай-яй-яй» — Tsk tsk tsk

Обычная суповая кастрюля
- I say frying pan for сковородка Pot for anything deep, although a sauce pan I would use for the very small one that you can actually make sauces in ?
The Brits will not agree with me, but it’s heavily regional.
Pan is for wider and more shallow items. Pot is for deeper cooking items. American classic — a “crock pot”

- don’t throw sand at anyone! You could get it IN their eyes!
Когда поднимаешься наверх с малышом на детскую горку по ступенькам
- Climb up the hill, Climb up the steps, Go up here, Get up to the top
- “Up you go” is fine but is more like when a parent puts a kid up somewhere in one quick motion and says “up we go! Or up you go!” Alternatively we could say that when in a lift or some sort of ride that goes up.

Когда ребенок пытается «взять» с картинки нарисованный предмет, открыть закрытую дверь и т.п.
- По-русски говорим «никак» — that’s not gonna work.
- Животные — it или he/she? В книгах встречаю одушевленный вариант, в мультиках неодушевленный.This is a tricky one. Basically we use it for things to which we have no relationship. If we feel like the animal is somehow close to us or that we are familiar with it, then we can use he/she, although it’s technically not correct. Insects are hard to imagine s being our friends and such, so we almost always use it for them. Possible to use «he». It’s a common mistake with mosquitos, since all of the mosquitoes we see are female — «I got him!» you should say her or it. Cows would generally be it, but give it a name and we can say he/she — Bessie the cow is famous, we would always call it a she. If it is clear that the animal in question is a mother, then you can use «she». In general, this is hard to really explain and you have to feel it, but if you get it wrong, we will notice.
- Драчун — bully if we are talking about kids at school who pick on others and try to put them down and insult them. Generally bullies pick on kids they feel to be weak and uncool or different.
- Кувырок — somersault.This is the more professional gymnastics version.a more simple and less impressive one is called a «cartwheel».Used with the verb «do»: do a somersault, cartwheel, backflip, triple axel etc.At our gym we say forward roll/backward roll when done on the mats
- Подтяни штаны/носки — Pull up your pants, jeans, britches, socks
- Поправь рубашку/платье — tuck in I believe if we are talking about a shirt. for a dress I guess it would be to straighten out.
- Не шмыгай носом — I think to «sniffle» When you have snot in your nose and you need to blow it, but instead you just suck air up through your nose which fixes the problem for 2 minutes.
- Не ковыряй в носу — pick your nose or dig in your nose. Don’t do it!
- Высморкайся в платочек — blow your nose (no need to say into a tissue)
- Прыгай (делай что-то ещё), я тебя подстрахую! — Jump, I will back you up
